| 4TH ISSUE OF P.I.N.! |
|

We did it again
folks! We managed to put together some stimulating reading material.
Our stack of stuff was loaded to the hilt this month.
For starters, we have an interview with Jo Ann Martian, an essay on
‘good people vs. abuse’ by a prolific and award winning writer Dr
Vaknin, and another essay on building therapeutic alliances, and more
this issue.
Changing the topic, we are getting requests for issues (and back
issues) of PIN from county and state agencies. Nothing from the FEDs
yet, but we are still early in the game. Thanks to you, our savvy
readership, PIN is moving alone into new territories.

| An Interview with
JoAnn Martin
by Cristina Cabrera |
|
“That
Girl”
JoAnn Martin may give
the impression of being a rather quiet, reserved person before you get
to know her, and for the most part, she is. However, this woman with
the soft-spoken voice has accomplished and experienced more in her
lifetime than many would have ever imagined.
JoAnn Martin started the Riverside DBSA
in the fall of 1987 and serves as Publisher and Editor in Chief of the
Riverside DBSA Newsletter. JoAnn graciously opens her home to
everyone for DBSA meetings and for holiday barbeques and dinners. She
has been a friend and great source of support for mental health
clients throughout the years. [Cont Page 2] |

| WHY GOOD PEOPLE IGNORE ABUSE
By Dr. Sam Vaknin
Why do good people - church-goers, pillars of the community, the salt
of the earth - ignore abuse and neglect, even when it is on their
doorstep and in their proverbial backyard (fo instance, in hospitals,
orphanages, shelters, prisons, and the like)?
