The House Supervisor From a High
Profile Inpatient Behavior Hospital Writes….
HEAR HEAR! I just
read the site you gave me- it is EXCELLENT and what I am always
preaching. One point that you missed however is this:
Where does staff
indifference and intolerance and frustration come from?
I have been an RN for
over 24 years and have observed the horrendous way that people who
are suffering from mental illness are treated. I have also observed
compassionate and caring professionals who are not judgmental in
their treatment of people who have addiction or mental health
issues.
What makes the
difference?
These professionals
do not have an "us and them" mentality. These
professionals do not have the "god Complex". They realize
they are only instruments to help people heal themselves. They do
their best and leave the rest up to God and the individual. They
don't take it personally when people don't get as well as
"they" think they "should".
If there is any way I
can help, you are singing my song, you are preaching on my soap box.
That is the main reason I want to be a Psychiatric Nurse
Practitioner. I see people over medicated, under medicated and I
JUST DO NOT BELIEVE that medication is the TOTAL ANSWER. Yes, there
ARE DEFINITELY brain chemistry imbalances, medications can help some
with that, at least getting the person cleared so they can learn
more coping skills, do some inventory and take advantage of tools
like CBT or DBT. G.K.
